You guessed it–we’ll be talking about why you need to have a clean apartment and how you can do just that. Keep reading to learn more!
Visual Clutter is Distracting
It’s like your mom always used to say–“clean living space, clean mind.” In other words, when your apartment starts to look a little worse for wear and you walk into a space that’s not very visually appealing it can start to take its toll.
Do you find yourself stressed out at the end of a long day? Your plan was to get everything done so you could kick back and relax with an hour or two of Netflix, but you just can’t quite seem to get your head in the right space. Could it be because your apartment is a little messy? It probably could!
It’s easy to come home and toss your hoodie over the back of the couch, kick off your shoes in the middle of the floor, and get comfortable. Do this enough times throughout the week and suddenly your apartment is looking a little bit cluttered.
Our advice is to carve out a bit of time to get things picked up. You don’t have to go overboard and drag out the Mr. Clean, a half dozen sponges, and all the rest of your cleaning supplies. Instead focus on the visual clutter that’s keeping you from relaxing. Trust us when we say you’ll feel much better once you’ve hung up your clothes, done the dishes, and rearranged what’s on the coffee table.
You Have to Be Able to Find What You’re Looking For
How often have you gathered your things to head out the door in the morning only to discover that you have absolutely no idea where your keys are. Your backpack is safe because you dropped it by the door on the way in and your phone…well, your phone is like an extension of your body so you know where it is at all times. That means that you brought it into your room with you last night to make sure that it got the charge it needed.
Your keys on the other hand? Where those ended up is pretty much anyone’s guess. They could be in your backpack. So you dig for a bit and come up empty handed. Maybe you put them on the kitchen counter, so you head in to check. Strike two. You’re running out of time, so you frantically start digging through the pile of clothes on your bedroom floor in the hopes that you hear the telltale jingle jangle of metal on metal. That did the trick, but now you’re running late.
This is just one of a handful of instances where commonly used items get misplaced. Hey, we’re certainly not judging you because the truth of the matter is that it happens to everyone. All we’re doing is advocating for the fact that there’s a better way. Only superhumans are able to keep a living space clean every second of every day, and it’s especially easy for it to get a bit messy if you have a roommate.
At the end of the day, your space is going to need some TLC from time to time (and no, we’re not talking about blasting the song Waterfalls from your stereo, although you certainly could do that while you’re cleaning). Setting aside some time a few days a week to tackle any of the issues that will inevitably pop up throughout the week is the way to go because doing it this way only takes a couple of minutes each day rather than several hours at the end of the week. Wouldn’t you agree that this is the way to go?
