In the third and final part of our series about the things to do first when you’re new to Fort Collins, we’d like to share even more things that we think are worth experiencing. In the first two parts, we highlighted things places like Horsetooth Reservoir, Pinball Jones, and Dungeons and Drafts. As you can probably tell, there’s a lot of fun to be had in our wonderful city, but figuring out which things to do first can be a pretty big challenge.
Not to worry though, because the team at Ram’s Crossing East, Lofts, & Townhomes can help! We’re proud to offer some of the absolute best student apartments for rent near CSU and there’s nothing we love more than welcoming people to our community. With that as our goal, we’d like to wish you well on your journey to a new city. It can be intimidating, sure, but we think you’ll find that there are plenty of friendly people who will help you to settle in in no time at all.
We’ve covered quite a few of the best things about our neck of the woods, so what else could we possibly have up our sleeves to share with you? That’s a good question, and we’ll be revealing our final picks in today’s post. Sure, you certainly could break out your iPhone and just Google things to do here, but wouldn’t you rather take it from locals who have spent quite a bit of time here? If so, keep reading to learn more!
Even More Great Things to Do In Fort Collins
The Fox and the Crow
A “cheese shop and bistro in Midtown Fort Collins,” The Fox and the Crow is a pretty wonderful place to spend your time. After all, who doesn’t love some good cheese? As their website notes, “With two full-time (soon to be three) Certified Cheese Professionals, it’s easy to find and introduce you to your new favorite cheese” and you can “extend your stay with one of our delicious cheese-inspired menu offerings, topped off with our carefully curated wine and beer selection.”
They even offer monthly cheese clubs, classes, and food pairings. If that sounds up your alley, well then we’re quite sure that you’ll fit right in.
Ace Gillett’s Lounge
We’ve mentioned Ace Gillett’s on our blog in the past as one of the highlights of Fort Collins, and that’s a statement that we certainly stand by. For the uninitiated, “Ace Gillett’s celebrates a bygone era of exquisite service, timeless style, classic cocktails, and expert cuisine” where you can “step away from one world and descend underground into another – a shadowy, smoldering enclave with walls nearly a century old that hold the memories and merriment of travelers and the surrounding neighborhood alike.”
In other words, it’s a super cool jazz club that has live music unlike anything you can hear elsewhere. Ace Gillett’s offers happy hour from 4-6 on Tuesday through Sunday and all night on Mondays. If you want to try something a little different, give it a try. Trust us when we say that you won’t regret it!
Holiday Twin Drive-In
There’s something really special about a trip to the drive-in, and it’s not an experience you can get just anywhere. In fact, drive-in theaters are quickly closing up all across the country. Thankfully, Holiday Twin Drive-In is still holding strong!
If a double feature is what you’re in the mood for, you’ll have your choice between two screens with double features playing on each one. Depending on the time of year you read this, they may be closed, but if you can hold out for spring, you’ll have some old fashioned fun if you make it a point to cruise over the the drive-in to take in a movie or two.
Choice City Butcher & Deli
Ask anyone what the best place to get a sandwich or a burger in Fort Collins is and you’ll probably hear Choice City come up the majority of the time. As a local butcher shop and deli, it makes sense that they’d have the freshest and best cuts of meat. They have a whole lot more than that though! There’s also a great selection of beers on tap, and the staff is knowledgeable about them all. Whether you need advice on pairings or just have a question about beer or meat, they can help you.
You can visit for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, or you can just pop in to have them cut a steak for you to grill up yourself. Whatever your preference is, you’ll find that a trip to Choice City Butcher & Deli is a wonderful thing, and that it’s a great place to know about in Fort Collins.
First Friday Art Walk
As its name implies, the art walk takes place on the first Friday of every single month. You’ll find everything from paintings of nature to beautiful black and white photographs. If you’re looking for a way to decorate your apartment, this just might be it!
It’s also a great way to get familiar with everything in Old Town. As one of the biggest draws in the city, Old Town is absolutely packed with the best that the city has to offer.
New Belgium Brewery Tour
What kind of recommenders would we be if we didn’t mention the New Belgium Brewery Tour? Although there are certainly a lot of breweries in our neck of the woods, New Belgium is among the most beloved thanks to its incredible tours. They’ll share all about a variety of beers and you’ll find that passion is the name of the game from your guides as they tell you about the brewery’s history, technology, and even business model.
Tours are available the public, they occur daily, and best of all, they’re free! If you’re over the age of 21, you’ll also be treated to some delicious samples. The tour takes about an hour and a half, and it’s sure to endear you to the legendary New Belgium Brewery and its incredible beers.
