More Things You Need to Do In and Around Fort Collins
Dungeons and Drafts
We’ve mentioned Dungeons and Drafts here in our blog before, but there’s a good reason for that. Billing itself as “a tavern for geeks and gamers,” it’s a place where everyone is welcome — and perhaps best of all, it’s a great place to meet friendly new people! Be sure to take a look at their website, because they post a calendar of upcoming events like open mic comedy nights, Disney karaoke, Mario Kart tournaments, and more.
In other words, no matter what type of fun you like to have, you can do it while enjoying food, drinks, and likeminded company.
Everybody needs a good go-to coffee shop, and Fort Collins is a place that’s full of exceptionally good coffee that’s been crafted by baristas that are dedicated to their craft. Everyday Joe’s is no exception! The particularly cool thing about it? Your baristas are volunteers, and the coffee shop is specifically designed to benefit and serve the surrounding neighborhood. Located on Mason Street, its beauty will strike you immediately when you walk in thanks to its tall ceilings, brick walls, and friendly faces.
They even frequently host concerts, art galleries, and the like, and if you attend one of their events, you’re sure to have a wonderful time. Whether you want to visit to get a cup of coffee to start your day off right or you need somewhere quiet to study, Everyday Joe’s is a wonderful place to be.
See a Show
Once upon a time, Fort Collins didn’t really have anywhere to go if you were a music fan. Sadly, you’d have to make the long journey down to Denver just to see someone play! Thankfully, those days are in the past as more and more touring musicians make it a point to swing through Fort Collins.
The Aggie Theatre has probably been around the longest, and it draws a wide array of musicians. Whether you prefer hip hop, indie music, punk, or really pretty much anything else, The Aggie just might have it. With live music nearly every day, you’re sure to find something to love!
There are also a number of other venues, like (the incredible sounding) Washington’s, local-favorite Hodi’s Half Note, Surfside 7, Downtown Artery, and even some DIY house venues if you’re willing to do a bit of research. In short, there’s something for every music fan in Fort Collins!
Everyone likes to get a little spooked every now and again, right? Thankfully, the haunted tours you’ll find available in Fort Collins also offer a fun bit of history as well. Many of these tours will take you through locations in Old Town that are closed to the public and that you might not otherwise see.
Taking a haunted tour is a really great way to learn about the spooky lore of the city, but it’s an even better way to learn about its past. Whether you go alone or with a date, you’re sure to have a great time on a haunted tour of Fort Collins.
Drive to Rocky Mountain National Park
“But wait a second! Didn’t you say this would be a list of things to do in Fort Collins?” You got us there, but please hear us out. Taking a trip up Highway 34 and through Estes Park is a really wonderful way to get to know a little bit about your surroundings. Your drive (or bike ride if you’re adventurous enough and it’s not snowing) will be rewarded with one of the most beautiful natural experiences you’ve ever had.
Whether you opt to drive through the park or stop along the way to do some hiking, you’re in for something really special. You’ll likely find a variety of creatures and critters to look at along the way as well, as there are frequent sightings of deer and elk in Rocky Mountain National Park. From Trail Ridge Road to Old Fall River Road to the Keyhole Route to Bear Lake, there’s plenty to experience if you’re willing to make the journey, and we’d wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone. Hey, at the end of the day, knowing how close you are to such wonderful natural beauty is a great thing!
A staple of the community, The Lyric is beloved by pretty much everyone who’s ever set foot inside of it — and that includes its old location as well as its new one! Whether you go for their occasional Bad Movie Nights, Cult Film Tuesdays, or to see the films that you probably won’t have an opportunity to see anywhere else, The Lyric is a truly special place in Fort Collins.
As a matter of fact, their guiding principles include building community, fostering creativity, campaigning for social change, creating hospitality, and being more than a cinema. That’s something we can certainly get behind, and we’re thankful for their presence in this city. Oh, and they also host weekend cartoons on the big screen on Saturdays and Sundays starting at 9 am. How cool is that?
