Get Out and Explore Fort Collins

B-17 Crash Site

Although it’s easy to think of World War II as something that happened mostly out of the United States — and certainly far away from Colorado — in reality, there is an area right in our backyard that holds a piece of WWII history. An article from The Coloradoan describes what happened at the crash site of a B-17 bomber located about 40 miles west of Fort Collins.

“Interested hikers are asked to look at the wreckage as a history lesson, instead of tourist destination [and] you should only leave footprints and only take photographs away from the hallowed site,” notes the aforementioned article. If you’re interested in checking out a literal piece of history located just a stone’s throw away from our wonderful city, making this trek is very much worth the journey.

The Fox and The Crow

When’s the last time you checked out an amazing shop dedicated to creating amazing cheeses? If the answer is “never” — and let’s be honest, it probably is — then you’re long overdue for a trip to The Fox and The Crow.

Offering “farmstead and artisan cheeses and meats from 5 to 5,000 miles away,” this is the perfect place to visit whether you’d like to sit down for a spell and enjoy some cheese or if you’re planning a party and you’re building out your own charcuterie tray. They also feature a handful of meals, sandwiches, and desserts that you’re sure to appreciate. Happy hour is on Monday through Friday from 3 to 6, so head over after you’re done with class for the day and try something new at The Fox and The Crow.

Indigo Rose Books

Ever wandered down Linden Street after a night at the Blind Pig and seen the neon sign that simply says “Book Store”? You may not have thought anything of it, but the truth is that this book store — also known as Indigo Rose Books — offers a wholly unique experience. Follow the neon sign up the narrow stairs, and you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into another universe.

Whether you have a specific book in mind or you’d rather browse for a hidden gem (much like Indigo Rose itself), you’re sure to have a wonderful time. The store’s owner is friendly, and is always up for a chat about literature, which is perfect if you’re looking for recommendations or if you’d just like to discuss why you love a particular author. Either way, you’re sure to love this hidden treasure that’s located downtown.
