Our Tips for Being a Great Apartment Neighbor

Introduce Yourself

First and foremost, the best thing you can do whether you live in an apartment complex or a home is to introduce yourself to your neighbors. Not only is it the neighborly thing to do, but it can come in incredibly handy when you need to borrow something to complete a recipe. It can come in even handy-er when you find that your neighbor is a science major and you need someone to help you understand what your biology book is talking about.

At the end of the day, you don’t have to be best friends with your neighbors (unless you want to, of course!), but being friendly with them, knowing their names, and lending a helping hand in their time of need can go a long way.

Similarly, swing by the management office and get to know us!

Be Respectful

This is pretty much Apartment Living 101, but you should strive to be a respectful neighbor at all times. This is particularly true when you’re living in apartments near CSU because all of your neighbors are likely students, and if there’s one thing you can absolutely count on when it comes to students it’s that they’re all keeping different hours.

You might have a class at 8 am and your neighbor might not have one until noon. That means you’ll be going to bed early and your neighbor might be hitting the hay a bit later. This is a perfect opportunity to put the Golden Rule into action; “do unto others as you’d have them do unto you,” as the saying goes.

The best neighbors are the ones that strive to be respectful in everything from the volume of their voice when speaking on the phone to vacuuming and cleaning hours to how they park in parking lots.

Practice Laundry Room Etiquette

As you might know, at Ram’s Crossing East there are five onsite 24-hour laundry facilities. That means that you it’s always easy to throw a load of clothing in the wash and not have to worry about it.

This helps to alleviate some of the common issues that are found in other laundry rooms, but there’s still a lot to be said for being a considerate clothes launderer. Common sense dictates that you should not put someone’s clothes into a dryer because you want to use that particular machine. Our advice on the subject is to go above and beyond in a shared laundry space.

How can you do this, you ask? Simply be sure to clean up any spilled detergent, always clean the lint out of the dryer, and be as timely as possible with your laundry. For example, if you know that you have the dryer set to dry for 20 minutes, set a timer and come back in 15. (Or, of course, you could bring a book along and knock out a bit of studying while you’re doing laundry as well, because why not kill two birds with one stone?)
