New to Fort Collins? Here Are a Few Suggestions
Head to a Local Brewery
If you’re from out of state, chances are that one of the first ways you were introduced to the city of Fort Collins was through one of its breweries. As a matter of fact, New Belgium Brewing–famous for its Fat Tire–is currently the fourth largest microbrewery in the United States. As its reputation for beer grew, so did the number of breweries around the city.
As a matter of fact, colorado.com recently noted that Fort Collins is “Colorado’s Craft Beer Capital” and stated that the city has “more than 20 breweries [which] produce 70 percent of Colorado’s craft beer and 7 percent of the nation’s.” Those are pretty respectable numbers! And speaking of numbers, a number of the city’s breweries offer tours or have tap rooms for you to stop in and sample their wares.
Whether you swing by Odell, Black Bottle Brewery, Equinox, Funkwerks, Coopersmith’s Pub and Brewery, McClellan’s, or one of the other breweries in the city, you’ll be treated to some of the best oat sodas on the face of the planet. Whether you’re a beer expert or you just want something fun to do in town, a trip to a local brewery is a great way to get a cold drink and meet some new people.
Try Your Hand at an Escape Room
Are you looking for a unique experience? New to town and searching for a way to meet people? An escape room might just be the perfect solution. If you’ve never tried an escape room before, you’re in for a real treat! Generally speaking, each room has a specific theme and it’s up to you and the rest of the people in the room to seek out the clues and use your brain power to get out of the locked room in the amount of time that is allotted to you.
Popular choices include Enigma Escape Rooms, The Fort Collins Escape Room, ConTRAPtions Escape Room, and Somewhere Secret. Regardless of which one you end up choosing–or hey, if you really enjoy your experience, why not try all of them?–you’re sure to find that using your brain to solve a puzzle is exciting. Whether you’re an avid puzzle solver or simply someone who is looking to try something a little bit out of the ordinary, one of the escape rooms in the area is a great place to start.
Some rooms have themes and others simply leave it up to you to explore and find the hidden treasure at the end, so do a bit of research to find the option that works best for you. Whatever you choose, we truly believe that you’ll have the time of your life working together in a group to solve the puzzle at hand! This is a great way to get to know the people you’ve recently met if you’re new to the area.
Explore Old Town
In our previous blog, we highlighted Everyday Joe’s Coffee House and Big Al’s Burgers and Dogs as must-visit locations in Fort Collins, but the truth of the matter is that Old Town Fort Collins has quite a bit to offer! As a matter of fact, did you know that “Hollywood set designer Harper Goff, who was responsible for designing several street fronts for Main Street, U.S.A., grew up in Fort Collins and used the buildings of his childhood to inspire Disneyland’s designs”? This article on The Coloradoan has more info, but suffice it to say that there is plenty to love about Old Town.
Our suggestion is just to pick a location downtown, find a place to park, and spend a bit of time walking around. If something catches your eye, don’t hesitate to explore! If you’re looking for some outdoor gear that’s made in Colorado, start at Topo Designs. Grab yourself one of their beloved Klettersacks to carry your gear in because you’re going to need it here in Colorado!
When you’re done there, head a few steps down the street and enjoy the smells of Old Town Spice Shop to grab the seasonings, salts, extracts, peppers, and more to enhance your cooking. From there, make your way to The Cupboard to get everything you need to make a great meal. They have a great selection of items that you need to make your kitchen both fashionable and functional.
